Mr. Lonely

I was just trying to check my good friend Leah's profile in Friendster when her shoutout really shouted it's way to my heart. It read "loneliness is not d absence Of aFFection, bUt d aBsence Of diRection..."

It just hit me. At 30 and still single, I really feel lonely. I am even if I still have my family and friends that really supports me. My mom and pop is still with me, my youngest brother lives with us and is currently studying in college, and my other brother, although is in Palau, always sends me a message in Friendster to tell us about what's happening to him in a Survivor island. I have my male and female friends who I really can rely on anytime.

Am I lonely because I don't have someone special in my life? A quick answer would be yes. Apparently it isn't. I'm lonely because I really don't know what to do with my life and have no clear direction whatsoever of what I want to do and this is not what I wanted to be at thirty years old. Actually, I already know this but just needed a shout to remind me.

Thanks, Leigh.

GMA 7 bags "Philippine Idol" Season 2 but why am I not happy?

For starters, I am a Kapuso and I love Philippine Idol. When I read the news that GMA 7 bags the right to show the second season of PI, I was extremely happy that finally, Season 2 of PI will be shown and in my favorite network - Kapuso, but when I read the full article, I was more than disappointed. Why?

Read on the article in Philippine Daily Inquirer:

"'GMA 7 bags RP ‘Idol’

Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines - It’s official.

“Philippine Idol’s” season 2 will be aired on GMA 7, according to Geraldine Bravo, director of Marketing and Sales for FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder.

“We are very fortunate to find a new partner to produce ‘Philippine Idol,’” said Bravo in an official statement sent to Inquirer Entertainment on Friday.

The first season of the reality singing contest was aired by ABC 5 last year.

ABC 5 earlier insisted that it was still “deep in discussions with Fremantle and … barring any major glitch … [we will] still mount the second season.”

Sought to comment on the new development, ABC 5, through senior vice president for Corporate Affairs Terra Daffon, said, “ABC 5 is still waiting for official word from Fremantle.”

Bravo’s formal announcement, however, sealed the deal with GMA 7. “It is our intention to make [RP ‘Idol’] the biggest show the Philippines has ever seen,” Bravo said.

According to various sources, the show’s target launch is February 2008.

An insider told the Inquirer on Wednesday that GMA 7 had bagged the show as of Tuesday night.

The source claimed that GMA 7 would treat its RP “Idol” as a totally new show, independent of the first season—meaning, Mau Marcelo would not be considered the first winner.

But another informant said, “Fremantle should be the one to make such decisions.”

Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior vice president for Entertainment TV, said, “As far as we are concerned, this is our first partnership with Fremantle for the ‘Idol’ franchise.”

Bravo’s announcement, Galvante added, merely “means that [both parties] have agreed that GMA 7 has the experience, resources and people to mount talent-search programs [like ‘Idol’].”

In the statement, Bravo said there was no problem in finding talented singers in the Philippines. “The challenge is to keep the show interesting, by providing the viewers with an insight into the journeys that the singers are [taking].”

Galvante agreed: “That’s the essence of the ‘Idol’ franchise.” However, she declined to comment on ABC 5’s status. “That’s between ABC 5 and the people it was talking to in Fremantle.”

According to Bravo’s statement, “Fremantle has taken into consideration several parties to be the possible home of [RP ‘Idol’].” The statement reiterated that Fremantle considered GMA 7 as “an excellent partner ... having licensed other [Fremantle] shows like ‘Celebrity Duets,’ ‘Whammy,’ and ‘Family Feud.’”

One source said Regine Velasquez was being eyed as new ‘Idol’ host; another claimed that Ryan Agoncillo and Ryan Cayabyab would be retained as host and judge, respectively. “It’s too early to go into such details,” said Galvante.

Another question is whether Marcelo would compete in “Asian Idol” in November. According to a source, it was still undecided whether GMA 7 would participate in “Asian Idol” or whether record label Sony-BMG would field Marcelo in the regional contest in Jakarta.

Quite tellingly, Jan Nieto, Marcelo’s runner-up on Idol, is also signing up with GMA 7.'"

I would like to know the reason why for the following:

1. GMA 7 would treat its RP “Idol” as a totally new show, independent of the first season—meaning, Mau Marcelo would not be considered the first winner.

What?! Mau Marcelo deserves to be and is the first-ever Philippine Idol and it's already a fact. Why the injustice to Mau? Because her skin color? Because of being "plus-size"? Or is it because ABC 5 produced the first PI and not GMA 7?

2. Regine Velasquez is being eyed as new ‘Idol’ host.

Again, another what?! With all due respect to "The Songbird", she's got great talent-which is singing and although she can pass as a host for a variety-type of show, Philippine Idol is not the show for Regine to host, although I would like to see her as a judge in PI.

3. On another article, it mentioned that there is a possibility that GMA 7 would not be using "Philippine Idol" for the second season.

What would it be? Pinoy Idol? Pinoy Pop Idol? It sucks. The title Philippine Idol is perfect. It's classy, original, and very unique.

On top of all of this, there's a big possibility that the two Ryans, Ryan Agoncillo and Ryan Cayabyab, would not be retained as host and judge. The two Ryans are perfect for Philippine Idol as a host and judge, respectively.

Of course all of this is still not confirmed but with the way GMA 7 is working right now, they're not that different with the other giant network and they would do everything to be number one without thinking of the word "ethics" or “morals.” The reason why I am a Kapuso is because of its business ethics. But the way things are going now, they are beginning to be like ABS-CBN. If GMA 7 continues to run its business this way, (doing everything to be number one), they would definitely go down. Faster than the time it took them to be number one.

In Search of Inday

In Search of Inday

By this time, Inday would have found a way to the inbox of your cell phone (especially if you’re using Globe, thanks to Unlitxt). I'm on the process of looking for her because it's a rarity to find someone like her. In case you still don't know who "Inday" is, she is a governess (her own words) working for a small family of four. She applied for the job and on her interview with her employer, she answered:

"I believe that my training and expertise in management with the use of standard tools, and my discipline and experience will contribute significantly to the value of work that you aspire, and that the creativity, productivity, and work-efficiency and the high quality of outcomes I can render will boost work progress."

Now, who would not accept Inday?

When she started to work for her employer, first thing that she was asked to do was asked to go to the market to buy the things she would need to cook. Inday left a memo after that, saying:

"Attached herewith is a list of proposed acquisitions in line with my proposal to upgrade your household facilities. I have already made an initial survey of current market prices. Note however those prices could vary depending on the prevailing exchange rate and aggregate supply and demand which I also monitor in ANC on an hourly basis."

Inday's employer then asked her to cook French Fries but she declined, saying:

"Potatoes, when consumed in their raw state, are rapidly converted to glucose which raises insulin levels because of its simple sugar structure. When cooked in high temperatures like French fries, they produce a large amount of free radicals in the body causing aging, clotting, inflammation, cancer, weight gain... one French fry is worse than one cigarette."

Inday is very much health-conscious.

She was also asked by her employer why the rice she bought was a bit too pricey. Inday replied:

“Higher stock index and low flow of investments triggered inflation, thus, the peso is weak"

In terms of household duties, Inday almost never had a problem, but not with her employer's sons, whom her employer asked her to take care of also. One time, Junjun the eldest son figured in an accident in the kitchen and Inday had to explain:

"Compromising safety with useless aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered architectural design of our kitchen lavatory inexorably affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at the left temple lobe near the auditory organ."

Junjun, the youngest son of her employer also experienced having rashes one time so Inday had to explain why it happened, she said:

"It's because the allergens triggered the immune response. Eosinophilic migration occurs to the reaction site and there's a sudden release of chemotaxis and anaphylotoin including histamine and prostaglandins. These substances results to increase circulation to the site thus promoting redness..."

This prompted Inday to write a letter to her mother which goes:

"Dear mother,

Had it not been for the smelling salt, I must have collapsed a moment ago. Junior has become a little monster to me. Remember the head accident he had? As if it wasn't enough, he was summoned by the principal of his shabbily run academe. Oh, such an erudite bunch of baboons! I never thought being a governess can be such strenuous employ!"

Inday's father, however, was not happy and had to write back:

"Dear Inday,

Walanghiya ka! Magpadala ka ng pera! Nasa ospital nanay mo, dumugo ang ilong kababasa ng pesteng sulat mo!

Tatay"

In spite of this, Inday has a lot of characters that is necessary for a person to survive this dog-eat-dog world and with each character trait, the urge to find her got stronger. Some of the traits that Inday has are the following:

1. She values, disciplines, and protect her wards or “alagas.” When she was invited on the principal's office on the alleged fight that her ward, Junjun, figured in, Inday said:

“It’s absurd! It was never a fact that he will inflict a fight. I can only imagine how you handle schizophrenic kids on this educational institution. Revise your policies because it sucks.”

The principal was speechless after hearing Inday.

When asked by her employer if Junjun was really the one who broke the China vase, Inday merely said:

"There is neither allusion of doubt nor the presumption of guilt that a mere wanton display of a cajoling crop of youth could possibly render the horticultural vessel in its now disparaged state.

When it comes to disciplining her wards, Inday is also no pushover. She warned Junjun and Junior when they started to become hyperactive:

"Stop your raucous behavior. It is bound to result in property damages and if that happens there will be corresponding punishment inflicted upon you!"

2. She knows how to use money wisely. An example is when she sold a chair that's not being used by her employer. Inday said:

"I have computed the fair value less cost to sell, and the value in use using projections for five years and a pretax discount rate. Accordingly, the value in use is lower, so I decided to sell the chair. This is in accordance with PAS 18 on Revenue, PAS 16 on PPE, and PAS 36 on Impairment of Assets."

Another example is how she budgets her salary. Take a look on her budget allocation:

Php 500 - Globe plan
Php 1800 - Glutathione tablet
Php 600 - Olay Total Effects
Php 1,500 - Crocs flip-flops
Php 2,000 - for Mama

3. She values sex and is very much against premarital sex. A proof of this is her explanation when she said no to Dodong on his invitation to have sex with her:

“It’s not that I don't like you. It's just that I feel we're still too young to entertain thoughts of fornication in the domicile of our employers. In fact, it's very immature to insinuate that I don't reciprocate your emotions just because I decline to perform an act of coitus with you."

4. She is very much against rumor-mongering. She was furious when she found out that she was being talked about by her neighbors, saying:

"Listening to the nonsense conversations about someone's existence is a pathetic and worthless way of amusement. It doesn't contribute to the betterment of our society... I hate character assassinators!"

5. She is also a very active in society, being a member of a NGO feminist movement. When asked to make a speech in front of a rally, Inday proclaimed:

"We have the power to build on ourselves alone, of who we are and who we choose to be, not what the society imposes on us; or so to speak our gender and sexuality, freedom is the derivative of our being and we do not need the state to achieve such privilege, it's time to move on and deconstruct the ills of patriarchy."

6. She also knows the importance of R&R as she explains the need for her to take a day-off to her employer:

"Physical stress and excessive work may result to serious damage to one's body.
It is therefore essential that once in a while, we take a break from our usual routine to replenish the lost energy we once had..."

7. She definitely knows how to cook. Just try to take a look on the baon she prepared for her ward, Junjun:

a. Drunken shrimp and blue lobster meat with caviar serve with milagrosa rice (red variety) and apricot sauce

b. Vegetables in balsamic vinegar splashed with extra virgin olive oil

c. Lychee and peach salad with sour cream and cream cheese topped with lemon zests"

You said that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach? I can't wait to taste the said dishes.

8. She's opinionated.

Asked by her Ma'am about why Angel Locsin left GMA 7, Inday said:

"Sometimes, people choose to leave not because of selfish reasons but because they just know that things will get worse if they’ll stay. Leaving can be a tough act, and it’s harder when people can’t understand you for doing so."

9. She's not perfect.

When asked one time why her sinaing got overcooked, Inday explained:

"Heavy fire exerted by the stimulus affected the best conductor of heat which is the steel, causing the Oriza sativa to change its state of color, smell as well as the taste.”

One time also, her fried fish was a little too salty for her Ma'am, Inday explained

"The consistency was fine. But you see, it seems that the increased amount of sodium affected the taste drastically, and unfortunately after several minutes of analytical thought the situation became irreversible. I do apologize. Utmost care will be taken next time."

Of course since Inday became famous, she has her share of her enemies. One of them is the once-popular Ederly. Here's what she has to say about Ederly:

"My apologies, but the fact is your glory days are over my friend. I find it somewhat ridiculous; your persistence on persuading people to come to your party that never existed is beginning to get into my nerves! Damn you Ederlyn! No one undermines Inday's intellect...bitch...*evil laugh*

It seems Inday also hides some bitchiness inside her.

In searching highs and lows to find Inday, I managed to find out that she already resigned from the household she works in and gave this resignation letter:

"Ma’am and Sir,

I hereby render my irrevocable resignation as your employee effective today. It has been a pleasant stay in your company, but owing to personal reasons, I am compelled to move on. I would like to thank you and your good management for the wonderful experience accorded to me during my stay in your company…

Your governess,

Inday"

But after a few days, I also found out that Inday is already dead, much to my disappointment. Her self-written obituary goes:

"I was shot by a 9 mm bullet at the head damaging my entire stupid brain and my fucking skull so that I will die and stop speaking English preventing people from nose bleeding."

Too bad I wasn't able to meet and greet Inday.
